This Wiki page describes the simulations that will be performed on the Broadband Platform to investigate footwall / hanging wall and directivity effects for NGA-W2. This simulation is expected to generate 205,776 3-component seismograms.

Hanging Wall Specifications

Robert Graves has written a specification for a set of footwall and hanging wall simulation in this document.

Computational Estimates

40 Scenarios per code base 36 Code base combinations

5716 Seismograms per simulation 1440 Simulations 205,776 Total seismograms 729 days Total runtime

Seismograms per run (stations * variations): Mw6.0: 105 * 9 Mw6.5: 117 * 9 Mw7.0: 163 * 11 Mw7.5: 175 * 11

Total: 5716 seismograms per run

Total simulation: 40*18*2 = 1440

Total Seismograms = 36*5716 = 205,776

Runtime: (6.0 40 mins, 6.5 2 hrs, 7.0 8 hrs, 7.5 34 hrs) Mw6.0: (9*36) runs *40 mins = 216 hrs Mw6.5: (9*36) runs *2 hrs = 648 hrs Mw7.0: (11*36) runs *8 hrs = 3168 hrs Mw7.5: (11*36) runs *34 hrs = 13464 hrs

Total runtime (1 core): 729 Days

Summary of Simulations

Rupture Scenarios 4
Variations Per Rupture 10
Total input Ruptures 40
Stations per Rupture 175
Code bases 36
Total Seismograms 40 * 175 * 36 = 252,000
