Lauren Gelbach

Alumni Statement

Lauren Gelbach first entered the SCEC program in 2010. As a member of the SCEC-Virtual Display of Objects Production Team, Lauren helped create animations of earthquake sequences. She has always been interested in earth science and communicating science information to others. Throughout her summer at SCEC, Lauren increased her knowledge of using computer programs to help audiences visualize earthquake sequences and understand earthquake risk. After SCEC, Lauren was accepted into a graduate program at the University of Southern California’s Annenberg School of Communication and Journalism to further improve her communication skills and see how they can be applied to sharing science with specific audiences. She has worked at different science communication and education internships since then including an environmental non-profit called “Grades of Green” and the California Science Center’s “Hands-On Science Camp.”
