Yes, it provided me with the necessary tools to network and advance in my career path.
Kaitlin Welch joined the SCEC program in 2009. As a developer, Kaitlin worked with other programmers to implement new features to the SCEC-VDO program. Her new found interest in earthquakes and California brought her back to SCEC in 2010. She worked on the SCEC Intern websites and led a small team of USEIT interns to implement more features to the current USEIT intern website. Kaitlin graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a BS in Computer Science. She now resides in Houston, TX, where she works for Hewlett-Packard. As an IT Engineer, she develops mobile applications for HP field engineers and customer support.

Definitely, still go back to the SCEC website to from time to time to look for useful data and updates.
Ziran's experience at SCEC during the summer USEIT internship took him a long way. He met interesting people and worked on cool projects. He is proud to be part of the SCEC community. Although Ziran's current work is not directly related to earthquake science and engineering, his close colleagues are doing experiments on related fields such as laboratory earthquake and nano seismology. It's always an interesting conversation with them when he can relay back to his experience working with SCEC.

The SCEC Internship helped me learn a new transferable skill that I have been able to utilize in and out of the workplace. I was a member of the 2009 CMS Development team whose goal was to create an online system to manage any metadata created throughout the internship and document basically everything. We used Drupal, an open source content management system to development this idea. I had to learn my way around HTML, php, and linux. I enjoyed the work and continued working with SCEC as a work-study student and later as an employee. I further developed the intern website into a fully fledged intern portal. With the help of Tran Huynh I created the site as it is today. I have been able to use this knowledge to create countless other websites including my current company's website. I also create blogs for friends and acquaintances as well as personal sites for bands and musical artists. I also learned how to organize and document project files so that they will be useful in the future for myself or any future developers, a skill which has translated very well to my current engineering work.
