Description:

SCEC-VDO software shows participation rates of affected faults when a segment (individual or multiple) of the Garlock fault ruptures. The videos show the variation of Multiple Fault Rupture Rates in all four deformation models (Zeng, NeoKinema, Averaged Block Model, and Geologic Block Model).

The videos begin by showing participation rates of faults for a rupture of each individual panel of the Garlock fault (the panel with rupture is shown in white). Then, the same sequence occurs, but with the vertical stacking of the rate of each possible rupture; the first 100 ruptures are shown. Following by individual segment rupture, multiple segment ruptures (including rupture along the entire fault) are shown with the rate of the first 100 ruptures shown above the fault.

The colors correspond to rate of participation, with pink indicating highest likelihood of rupture participation (if the selected segment of the Garlock ruptures) and blue indicating lowest rates of participation. The units are rate on a logarithmic scale. For example, a value of 10-2 is a rate of 0.01 (one in 100 years).
