How to Make an Effective Poster

What constitutes an effective poster?

1. focus on a single message
2. remain informative, but concise
3. have a well-ordered and logical flow

Things to avoid:

• tiny font (you should maintain at least a 24pt font)
• fancy font (make sure it is legible from far away)
• cluttered or messy look
• distracting backgrounds making the poster hard to read

Poster Guidelines:

The maximum size for the poster is 4 ft high x 6 ft wide

The SCEC Plotter has a max size of 36in x 60in ( 3ft high x 5ft wide).

The size of the poster to send to the plotter should be less than or equal to 10mb.

Include along the top:
Line 1: Title
Line 2: Names of your teammates
Line 3: The universities they are affiliated with (superscript numbers should be used to correspond the universities with the names)

Within the body

• Abstract 
• Images relevant to your work
• Succinct information

Logos

1. SCEC Logo (w/ NSF & USGS subscript)
   
2. NSF Logo (large Earth small people)
3. DoD logo ( Department of Defense)
   
4. USC, PCC, ELAC, LMU (if you are from these institutions)
   
5. Mentor Institution (USC, only add if USC is not already added)
